Fundraising Tips for Marathon Runners (and Other Individual Fundraisers Too!)

January 19, 2011

GoodTwo’s based in Boston, which means we’re lucky to have a front-row seat for the Boston Marathon every year. The race, one of the most coveted marathons in the country, is a spectacle to watch and an amazing feat of athleticism. But what’s perhaps even more impressive is the fact that every year, Boston Marathoners raise more than $10 million for charity. The marathoners–ordinary people like you and I, not fundraising professionals–are given basic tools and, a new study finds, do most of their fundraising online.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy has a great writeup on a recent study of Boston marathoners that delves into what makes them such successful fundraisers. The whole thing is worth a read, but perhaps most interesting are some of the benchmarks that the study proposes. On average, the runners raise $3,640 and need to get donations from 36 to 40 donors to get there. The study suggests asking for higher amounts of money, in the range of $75 to $100, a habit that highly successful fundraisers have.

We’ve seen a couple of Boston Marathoners start signing up for GoodTwo fundraising pages. These marathoners have some pretty lofty goals. And the visitors at GoodTwo want to help. If you’re running, walking or riding for a good cause, leave the link to your fundraising page in the comments!

Press Release: Group Buying Moves Into the Charity Space with Launch of GoodTwo

December 15, 2010

GROUP BUYING MOVES INTO THE CHARITY SPACE WITH LAUNCH OF GoodTwo

New Brand of CoupMe Worldwide, LLC Allows Fundraisers to Harness the Power of Group Buying to Raise Money for a Cause

NEEDHAM, Mass.–CoupMe Worldwide, LLC announced the launch of GoodTwo, a free fundraising platform that allows individuals and nonprofits of all sizes to raise money by offering “deals” from top local and national brands. As nonprofits continue to face challenging economic times, GoodTwo provides a creative fundraiser that takes advantage of the popularity of group buying sites like CoupMe or Groupon and puts them to use in fundraising.

GoodTwo operates on the premise “Good Deal. Good Cause.” Fundraisers host deals on dedicated pages customized for their cause that they can then offer to their supporters for a limited time. For each deal sold through the page, the fundraiser keeps half the profit. While the fundraiser benefits from each sale, the donors also receive a discount of 50% off or more at local and national businesses as a reward.

“GoodTwo allows nonprofits to take advantage of the group buying trend, rewarding donors while also meeting fundraising goals. The cause receives a donation, the donor gets a great deal, and the business presenting the deal gets valuable cause association and brings a new customer through its door,” says CoupMe Worldwide CEO Bill Yucatonis, a former marketing vice president at online charity auction site BiddingForGood. “Our team’s experience with fundraising solutions and early entry into the group buying marketplace with our New England site CoupMe gives us the strategic edge to merge the traditional deal-a-day model into a unique fundraising platform.”

GoodTwo is open to all causes and sizes of campaigns, from large nonprofits looking for unique fundraising opportunities to walkers and runners raising money for charity. GoodTwo also provides a solution for schools and community groups, who have often turned to fundraisers featuring wrapping paper or magazines, to bring a fresh event to their organization without relying solely on volunteers. Running a fundraiser on the site is completely free.

GoodTwo is launching in December across New England and several other key cities, with plans to rapidly expand nationwide in early 2011. The launch will feature a diverse array of deals for both national brands and local businesses in each territory. For more information, visit www.goodtwo.com.

GoodTwo’s big launch!

December 6, 2010

Good afternoon everyone! Today is a good day for us…in fact it’s good x two. The staff here over at CoupMe is proud to announce our newest brand launch: GoodTwo.

What is GoodTwo, you ask? We’re a unique fundraising platform that allows you to raise money for a good cause by selling a selection of our amazing deals to your donor base. Friends and family can buy deals for 50% or more off at local businesses, and the cause gets a donation for every deal sold.

Think of all those times you bugged your grandparents to buy yet another magazine subscription or wrapping paper they didn’t need to raise money for your fundraiser. Of course, they bought it because they love you, but what did they get out of it? Then there’s the time you destroyed your kitchen baking cookies to raise money for your 5K. Let’s be honest, baking just wasn’t in your genes.

Well, what if we told you we could make your fundraising efforts easier for you, and easier on your friends and family’s wallets? With GoodTwo, we do all the work for you and all you have to do is select which deals you’d like to sell, then promote away. Your cause then keeps half the profit for each deal sold.

Oh, and your buyers get a little something out of it too. Not only are they helping you reach your goal with their kind donation, but they get to pick from a menu of hand-picked deals. (Think: a hair cut, month gym membership or 50% off at their favorite restaurant).

There you have it. GoodTwo is doing good…times two. Our motto is good deal, good cause after all. That’s all there is to it. Check our our website here for more info, and sign up today to raise money for your next fundraiser stress-free!
